Hi, I'm Kate

I build software in Rust to solve real-world problems.

My journey into software started back in high school when I discovered I could use computers to speed up my assignments. That initial spark—using code to make life a little easier—has stuck with me ever since. I'm not driven by changing the world, but by the simple joy of solving small problems and enjoying the process of building something useful.

My technical path has been a long one. I started with Pascal and Cobol, hurt myself for a while with C and C++, and then settled in with C# for a long time. Eventually, a dissatisfaction with closed-source software drew me towards the beautiful mess that is open source.

That's what led me to Rust. I'll be the first to admit it's a difficult language, but its power is undeniable. The incredible tooling and the welcoming community sealed the deal for me.

Right now, my main focus is RustyBudgr, the sixth (or maybe seventh!) iteration of my personal finance management suite. It's a project I'm building to help people handle their personal finances and gain insights from daily expenses. For me, it's the perfect playground for tackling the things I love to think about most: clean data structures and maintainable code.

Let's Connect

I believe open source is about connecting with like-minded people. If you're also passionate about building practical FOSS tools or just want to chat, I'd love to hear from you. You can find all my projects, over on my GitHub.
